What is a phrase?
A phrase is a set of words that form a noun, verb, adjective, adverb or preposition. They never have a subject acting through a verb.
What is a clause?
A clause, is a set of words that has a subject acting through a verb. They are either independent or dependant.
What are the 3 types of dependant clauses?
Noun, Adjective and Adverb
What is a complex sentence?
When you chain together an independent clause and a dependent clause in one sentence.
What is an independent clause?
A clause that can be it’s own sentence.
What is a dependant clause?
A clause that cannot be it’s own sentence.
What is a compound sentence?
Two independent clauses chained together to form a sentence.
What is a misplaced modifier?
A clause or phrase which is modifying the wrong thing.
What is a dangling modifier?
A clause or phrase which we don’t know what it’s modifying.
What is a complex compound sentence?
A sentence which has 2 independent clauses and at least one dependant clause.
What is a coordinating conjunction?
A conjunction which links 2 independent clauses.
What is a subordinate conjunction?
A conjunction which links an independent clause to a dependant one.
