Go through
“Go through” has two main forms
- Direct definition
- Phrasal verb form
Go through: Pass through something, physical or imaginatively in order to get to your destination or leave behind a tough situation
I’ve been going through tough moments in my life, that made me what I am

I went through every place in the house to find it but I couldn’t
Hold back
Hold [someone] back
To stop someone from moving or doing something can be in a positive or negative way
I was going to kill him but my brother held me back
Leave out
Phrasal verb form
Leave [someone or something] out
- Not to include or omit something or someone from any activity or situation
I left some words out of the essay just in case they sound a little redundant
- To exclude someone ( phrasal form)
Nobody wants to play with our child, I think he feels left out :(
Let go of
Phrasal verb form
Let go of [something]
To stop holding something
Let go of my coat now!
Look up to
Phrasal verb form
Look up to [someone]
- To respect or admire somebody
I always looked up to him, but now my father is gone… And I couldn’t be more grateful for everything he gave me
Pull up
Phrasal verb form
Pull [someone] up
- To tell someone that they have done something wrong
Stop pulling me up for nonsense!
Mom has to pull them up if she wants her kids to be successful
Put up with
Phrasal verb form
Put up with [something or someone]
- To tolerate or accept something that annoys you
There are many different religions in this class, but each of you has to put up with every belief
See to
Phrasal verb form
See to [something]
- To deal with something or to take care of
I need you to see to the house while I’m out
Shut off
Phrasal verb form
Shut [something] off
- To make something stop working (machine)
Shut the machine off, the battery can wear out
Take after
- To look or be like someone in your family, especially genetics
She took after his dad all the force
He took after his father in looks
Think over
Phrasal verb form
Think [something] over
- To consider something better before making a decision
Think it over but try not to over-think
Throw away
Phrasal verb form
Throw [something away]
- To get rid of something that is not required
Don’t throw it away! Recycle it
Throw the garbage away
