Cancel
Cancel means to stop or end something that is planned or arranged.
Examples
“I called off the factory inspection today because I wasn’t feeling well.”
“We had to call off the picnic because of the rain.”
Catch up
Meet up with someone to chat about what you’ve missed. Getting up to date.
Examples
“Let’s catch up for coffee sometime soon!”
“Hey guys, can we have a catch up about the meeting yesterday.”
Come across
Find something unexpectedly.
Examples
“Have you come across my phone charger anywhere?”
“Hi Robert , I came across an old email from one of our clients. Can you reach out to them and see if there is anything they need?”
Figure out
Understand something. To find out.
Examples
“I can’t quite figure out how to use this new phone.”
“We’re trying to figure out the best way to get to the airport.”
Get on with
Continue doing something OR progress
Examples
“Let’s just get on with the jobs at hand.”(continue to do)
“How are you getting on with that book you’re reading?” (progress, what do you think about?)
Look after
Take care of something or someone
Examples
“Can you look after the dog while I’m at work?”
“I will be off tomorrow, can you look after (take care of )my emails please?”
Pick up
Pick up Learn a skill OR habit
Examples
“I’ve been picking up some Spanish lately”
“I have picked up some good exercise routines at my gym”
