Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration Unit Flashcards
Mitochondria
Considered the powerhouse of the cell because they use oxygen to transform food into energy to help the cell carry out activities
Ribosome
Organelles that make protein for the cell
Large central vacuole
Animal cells have many small fluid-filled structures that temporarily store different substances needed by cells
Chloroplasts
Help make food for itself
Cell wall
Extra support and structure for the cell that plant cell needs
Producers
Producers are any kind of green plant. Green plants make their food by taking sunlight and using the energy to make sugar.
Xylem
tissue that carries water and dissolved nutrients from root up the plants
Phloem
tissue that carriers sugars and carbohydrates , made in the leaves down through the plants
Stomata
Stomata are tiny, microscopic and critical for photosynthesis. Thousands of them dot on the surface of the plants.
Transpiration
letting water vapor out of a plant
Photosynthesis
process in which plant cells convert the energy from sunlight into chemical energy inside the chloroplasts
Photosynthesis equation
6H2O + 6CO2 + Light energy ( yield symbol) C2H12) + 6O2
Glucose (write formula)
C6H12O6
Carbon dioxide
6CO2
Cellular respiration
process in which cells use oxygen to release energy stored in sugars inside the mitochondria
