photosynthesis Flashcards
photosynthesis symbols
6 co2 + 6 h2o (sunlight and chlorophyll) = c6h12o6 + 6o2
photosynthesis words
Carbon dioxide + water (sunlight and chlorophyll) = glucose + oxygen
definition
the production of carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water using radiant energy from the sunlight being absorbed by the chlorophyll having oxygen as a by-product
raw materials
carbon dioxide (atmosphere) water (soil) radiant energy (sun) chlorophyll (chloroplasts) enzymes
storage energy
glucose
converted into
carbohydrates (for storage purposes)
Temperature
the ideal range is 20-30 degrees celsius, as soon as it gets hotter the molecules begin to denature, and if it is colder the rate of photosynthesis decreases
light intensity
the higher the light intensity, the higher the rate of photosynthesis until a certain point where there is no higher rate as the light intensity (the light intensity stops being a limiting factor)
carbon dioxide concentration
the decrease in co2 cause a decrease in the rate of photosynthesis, this also means there is an increase when there is an increase of co2 to the optimal point - after it stopes becoming a limiting factor
greenhouse
efficient because it optimises every limiting factor
