Photosynthesis 6.1 Flashcards
What do Plant Cells have; that Animal Cells don’t?
Cell Walls and Chloroplast.
Animal Cells only contain membrane
What does LEO mean
Loss of
Electrons =
Oxidized
What does GER mean
Gain of
Electrons =
Reduced
Is an Atom or Molecule that loses an electron oxidized?
YES
what is the agent that donates an electron to another molecule?
Reducing Agent
Compounds contain more Energy in Oxidized or Reduced form?
Reduced
Can Oxidation and Reductions occur independently?
No. There has to be another molecule to pass energy onto.
Where does the light dependent reaction take place?
In the Thylakoid of the Chloroplast.
What carries the production of ATP across the Thylakoid Membrane?
Build up of H+ (Hydrogen Ions aka. Protons).
How do so many protons get inside the Thylakoid?
As energy moves through etc (energy transport chain) they draw it into the Lumen.
Where does the energy used to pull H+ into the Thylakoid Lumen come from??
Light. Photons of light!
Why is the production of NADPH sooo important?
They are used to make sugar (Calvin Cycle)
What is the Photosynthesis Equation?
CO2 (g) + H2O (l) + e- > C6H12O6 + O2
