Photosynthesis Flashcards
How are chloroplasts adapted to capturing sunlight and carrying out photosynthesis?
° thylakoids membrane = high SA
° network of proteins hold chlorophyll in very precise manner
° granal membranes have enzymes attached to manufacture ATP
° contain DNA and ribosomes to make proteins needs for LDR
Where does the light-independent reaction take place?
Stroma of the chloroplasts
Where does the light dependant reaction take place?
Thylakoids of chloroplasts
Briefly outline the stages of the Calvin cycle (LIR)
- CO2 diffuses into stroma
- CO2 is fixed to RuBP (5C)
- CO2 + RuBP = 2 x GP
- ATP and reduced NADP reduce the GP to TP
- NADP is re-formed and goes back to LDR to accept more H
What is a limiting factor?
The rate of photosynthesis being affected by one factor with the least favourable value
List some examples of possible limiting factors in photosynthesis.
- light intensity
- CO2 levels
- temperature -> enzymes!
- water
Briefly outline the stages of the light dependant reaction (LDR).
•Light energy absorbed the chlorophyll
