Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the LIR?

A
  • the CO2 combines with RuBP using the enzyme Rubisco
  • This forms two molecules of GP
  • ATP and NADPH from the LDR are used to reduce the GP to TP
  • NADP is reformed and goes back to the LDR
  • Some TP are converted to useful organic substances, such as glucose
  • Most of the TP is used to regenerate RuBP

Q

Describe the process of the LDR?

A
  • Light is absorbed by the cholorphyll
  • This excites electrons
  • The electrons leave the chlorophyll via the ETC
  • Electrons are passed down a number of electron carriers through a series of oxidation-reduction reactions
  • That provides energy for ADP to combine with Pi to form ATP
  • Photolysis of water provides electrons and H+ ions which reduce NADP and gives off O2
