Photosynthesis Flashcards
Why Plants are very important organisms in an ecosystem.
to maintain the balance in an ecosystem and drive most of important biological processes.
Why are leaves Thin?
Leaves are thin because carbon dioxide can travel through them.
Why are leaves wide?
Gets more sunshine
What’s the basic anatomy of a cross section of a leaf
layer of cuticle covering a layer of epidermal cells.
What are the basic parts of a leaf section consists of?
Upper epidermis, lower epidermis, palisade mesophyll layer, spongy mesophyll layer, air spaces, guard cell’s surrounding stoma pores on the lower surface.
What’s the Function of the Upper epidermis?
Transparent to let light through protects inner layers.
What’s the function of the lower epidermis
Contains stomata to allow gas exchange.
What’s the function of the palisade mesophyll cells?
Primary site of photosynthesis.
What’s the function of the spongy mesophyll cells?
Loosely arranged with air spaces to let co2 and o2 move into and out of cells.
What’s the function of the stomata?
Pores which allow gas exchange and water loss.
What’s the function of the guard cells?
Change their shape to open and close stomata
What is the name of the top layer of the plant?
Wax and cuticle covering.
What is the process of photosynthesis
The process which green plants make their own food
How do green plants get their food?
Light energy into chemical energy in food
What do plants need to photosynthesise?
Carbon dioxide and water.
