photosynthesis Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
Process in which plants make their own food using light energy, carbon dioxide, and water
What is the xylem?
Tubes inside a plant located in the stem were water from the ground is sucked into the leaves
What are the pores in leaves called and what are they responsible for?
The stomata, it is responsible for the exchange of gases in photosynthesis and respiration
What is chloroplasts?
Chloroplast are the food producers of the cell, organelles are found only in plant cells and some protists
Do animals have chloroplasts
no
What is chloroplasts responsible for?
Chloroplast is responsible for the green color of plants and leaves once carbon dioxide and water reach the chloroplasts in residents of sunlight the process of photosynthesis start to take place
What is Mitochondria also known as?
Powerhouse of the cell
What is Mitochondria?
Organelles that act like as the digestive system which takes in the nutrients, break them down, and create energy rich molecules for the cell
What are biochemical processes
Celluar respiration
when does respiration occur?
in your cells and is fueled by oxygen you inhale. The carbon dioxide gas you exhale is the result of a completed a cycle of cellular respiration
what do plants produce after photosythesis
Glucose and oxygen
what is glucose used for
Growth of the plant, some glucose is stored in the leaves or roots
What is glucose stored as?
Strach in the leaves or roots af the plant
Why does photosynthesis take place at a slower rate under water
Energy from the sun is absorbed by the water layers and only some amount of energy actually reach plant
Another word for cellular respiration
The biochemical process of the cell
