Photosyntheseis Flashcards
What is Photosynthesis?
It is the process of witch green plants convert water and carbon dioxide into glucose by using the sunlight energy witch is absorbed by the chlorophyll in chloroplast.
What is its by-product?
oxygen
what is its equation in words?
Carbon dioxide + water –sunlight energy—> glucose +oxygen
what is the equation in symbols?
6CO2 + 6H2O —– sunlight energy—> C6H12O6 + 602
what are the 2 stages of photosynthesis
Light and dark stages.
what is light stage?
It is the stage that requires light energy that is absorbed by the chlorophyll in the chloroplast. The light energy is used to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is released as gass and waste product.
what is the dark stage?
it is the stage that doesn’t require light and takes place whether or not light is present. the hydrogen atoms produced in the light stage reduce the carbon dioxide molecules forming glucose. requires enzymes.
what are the conditions need for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide water sunlight energy chlorophyll enzymes suitable temp mineral ion (magnesium Mg2+, iron Fe3+, Nitrate NO-3)
where does photosynthesis occur and how is it catalyzed.
it occurs in the chloroplast and enzymes catalyze it.
