BITMAP
An image representation in the form of an array of dots or pixels.
BLEED
Extra space outside the design format that allows you to crop the print
no margin errors.
CALIBRATION
The process of adjusting the colors of a monitor or printer to ensure the
color accuracy.
CMYK
Acronym for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (Black), a color model used in
color printing
CROP MARKS
Marks used to indicate where the paper will be cut.
DPI (Dots Per Inch)
A measure of printer or image resolution.
GAMUT
The full range of colors that a device can reproduce or display.
HALFTONE
An image that has been converted into a dot pattern to be printed.
HIGH-RESOLUTION
An image file with a large amount of detail, usually
with a high DPI resolution.
ICC PROFILE
A set of data that characterizes a color device within a color system.
JPEG
A compressed image file format often used in prepress

Pixel
The basic unit of a digital image.
Proof
A preliminary version of a print designed to check for errors beforehand
of the final impression.
RASTER IMAGE
An image made up of pixels; also known as a bitmap image.
RESOLUTION
The amount of detail an image retains. It is usually measured in
DPI or PPI (pixels per inch).
RGB
Acronyms for Red, Green, Blue; color model used for emitting devices
light such as monitors, televisions and digital cameras.
RIP (Raster Image Processor)
A program that converts image data into a
form that the printer can interpret and use.
Vector Image
An image made up of mathematically defined lines and shapes, which
can be scaled without loss of quality.
WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get)
A type of user interface that allows
the user to see very close to the final result while creating a document or image.
