phospohrus Flashcards
phosphorus os
+1, +4
oxides of nitrogen and phosphorus are
acidic
oxides of arsenic and antimony is
amphoteric
and of bismuth is basic
white p is
waxy translucent poisonous insoluble in h2o but soluble in CS2
all angles are 60
WHite p dissolves in naoh to give
it catches fire to give
PH3 and sodium hydrosulphite
P4O10
red p
obtained by heating white phosphorus at 573K
in an inert atmosphere for several days.
odourless, nonpoisonous
insoluble in water and in carbon disulphide
Chemically, red phosphorus is much less reactive than white
phosphorus. It does not glow in the dark.
alpha black p
α-Black phosphorus is formed when red phosphorus is heated in a sealed tube at 803K
opaque monoclinic or rhombohedral
crystals
beta black p
β-Black phosphorus is prepared by
heating white phosphorus at 473 K under high pressure. It does not
burn in air upto 673
phosgine prep
*calcium phosphide with water
or dilute HCl
* P4+NaOH+ H2O = PH3+ NaH2PO2
