Describe Type 1 (medialization) thyroplasty

A
  • they cut a window into the side of the thyroid, then they insert a silicone wedge into the window.
  • The added material behind the paralyzed VF, it becomes medialized and the non-paralyzed VF can make better contact.

Teflon – can lead to necrosis over time. It is very viscous and embeds itself into the tissue, making it difficult to remove.
