Extent of airflow interrupted by parts of the mouth in the production of consonant sounds
Passive Articulators
Articulators that don’t move (Teeth, ridge, alveolar)
Active articulators
Articulators that move (tongue, lips)
Bilabial
Sound produced with closure of lips
Labiodental
Consonant produced with a constriction formed by the lower lip and upper teeth
Interdental
Tip or blade between the teeth (th in Bath)
Alveolar
Tip or Blade near alveolar ridge
Post-Alveolar
Blade just behind alveolar ridge(sh in ship)
