What is substitution?
A harder sound is replaced with an easier one
“dat”, “dere”, “dis”
What is reduplication?
Repetition of a sound of syllable

What is a velar consonant?
-produced with back of tongue against soft palate
What is an alveolar consonant?
-produced with the tongue close to or touching the ridge behind the teeth or on the roof of the mouth
What is a bilabial consonant?
-produced with the lips by stopping air coming from the mouth
What is a fricative consonant?
- produced by squeezing air through a small hole or gap in your mouth
- continuous
What is a plosive consonant?
-produced by blocking the air flow as it leaves the mouth
When should a child have mastered all of the consonants?
Age 7
What is the ‘fis’ phenomenon?
- understanding is greater than their production
- reception has outstripped production
- can hear and distinguish more than they can say
