Biological Development
0-2 months - Coughing, burping, crying and vomiting. Common to the whole human race.
Cooing and laughing
2-5 months Produced when the baby is settled. Short vowel-like sounds; the baby beginning to develop control over vocal muscles.
Vocal Play
(5-8 months) The controlled single sound, more varied than babbling but less controlled
Babbling
6-12 months Repetition of complete phonemes, largely those which appear in the child’s native language eg. Mama, bababa.
Melodic utterance
(9-18 months) Melody, rhythm and intonation, often to indicate questioning, greeting etc.
What are reduplicated monosyllables?
When phonemes are repeated eg (dada)

parts of the body that move to make sound
What is variegated babbling?
vocal play that involves different sounds placed together
