Phisical Landscapes Flashcards
Physical layer-
Where Rock type(geology) and landscape processes sculpted a physical landscape
Biological layer-
Soil, plants and trees
Human layer-
Settlements, communications and farming
Mechanical Weathering-
Rocks are Brocken down into smaller pieces
Chemical Weathering
Some substances causing the rock to change shape, colour or break it down
What causes chemical weathering
Carbon dioxide, oxygen and acids (acid rain!)
What causes mechanical weathering
Frost, Ice, roots, running water and sun
Geology-
The study of rocks beneath our feet
Lowlands
Flat land not much higher than sea level
Rock cycle-
When one type of rock changes into another type of rock
Igneous-
Forms when hot, molten rock crystallises and solidifies
Sedimentary-
What type of rock formed by the deposition of sediment e.g sandstone
Metamorphic-
Metamorphic rocks were once sedimentary or igneous rocks but have been changed (metamorphosed) due to intense heat or pressure in the earths crust
What rock layer are we on right now
Quaternary
What is erosion
It basically cleans up the mess weathering makes
