Pheochromocytoma - What is it?
A
- a tumour pumping out catecholamines (90% adrenal, 10% paragangliomas - organ of zuckercandle at aorticbirfurcation)

How do you diagnose a pheochromocytoma?
A
- urine and serum catecholamines
- adrenal CT/MRI

How do you treat a pheochromocytoma?
A
Surgical removal; adrenalectomy with vessel ligation
Medical: phenoxybenzamine (blocks alpha-1 = 14 days prior), Propanolol (blocks beta 1 = 3 days prior to sx.)
