New Moon
This side of the moon is not illuminated by the sun
Phases
Different apparent shapes of the moon as seen from Earth.
Waxing crescent
During this phase the moon is beginning to show.
First Quarter
Half of the moon is visible for first half evening then then goes down leaving the sky very dark.
Waxing gibbous
When most of the moon is showing we call it a gibbous
Full moon
When we can observe the entire face of the moon.
Waning gibbous
We can only see a sliver of the moon
Third last quarter
We can see exactly one half of the moons light
Waxing crescent
You can only see a sliver of the moon

The partial or total blocking of one object in space by another.
Solar eclipse
The blocking of sunlight to Earth that occurs when the moon is directly between the sun and Earth.
Lunar eclipse
The blocking of sunlight to the moon that occurs when Earth is directly between the sun and the moon.
