Phases Of Learning Flashcards
What is the first stage of learning?
Cognitive
What is the second phase of learning?
Associative
What is the third phase of learning?
Autonomous
What are the characteristics of the cognitive phase?
- performer is just starting to understand basic tasks
* progress is made up of a lot of trial and error
What are the characteristics of the associative phase?
- performer understand the basic tasks
- they then work on developing more complex skills and perfecting basic skills
- still involves some trial and error
What are the characteristics of the autonomous phase?
- performer is skilled and able to perform in competitive situations
- low anxiety levels when performing
- a lot of intrinsic feedback
What is the success rate of a cognitive performer?
Around 1 out of 10
What is the success rate of an associative performer?
Around 5 out of 10
What is the success rate of an autonomous performer?
Around 9 out of 10
What type of guidance would be used with a cognitive performer?
A lot of visual guidance so they get a feel for the task.
Manual/ mechanical guidance so they understand what is required to perform the task and Lower risk of injury
What type of guidance would be used with an associative performer?
Less visual guidance and more verbal to correct any smaller mistakes
Visual guidance is still used when demonstrating more complex skills
What type of guidance would be used for an autonomous performer?
Some verbal guidance to correct small mistakes
A lot of intrinsic feedback as they have a good mental picture of what the skill should look like
Some visual feedback like watching videos of themselves to spot mistakes
