Eclipse
the different shapes of the moon you see from Earth caused by the motions of the moon around Earth
Phases
The blocking of sunlight to Earth that occurs when the moon is directly between the sun and Earth
Solar eclipse
The blocking of sunlight to the moon that occur when Earth is directly between the sun and the moon
Lunar eclipse
When the moon is not illuminated
New moon
When the moon is starting to become more illuminated
Waxing crescent
Right half of the moon is visible
First Quarter
Most of the moon is visible and the moon is still growing
Waxing gibbous
The entire moon is visible
Full moon
The moon is becoming less and less illuminated but most of it is still visible
Waning Gibbous
The left half of the moon is illuminated
Last Quarter
Less than half of the moon is visible and the amount we can see is shrinking
Waning Crescent
