What are the three objectives of first aid?
1) prevent further injury
2) infection
3) loss of life
What are the 4 methods of controlling bleeding?
1) direct pressure
2) elevation
3) pressure points
4) tourniquet
How many pressure points on the body?
22, 11 on each side of the body
First degree burn
Produces redness, warmth and mild pain
Second degree burn
Causes red, blistered skin and severe pain

Two types of fractures?
1) “closed/simple”
2) “open/compound”
What is heat exhaustion?
Disturbance of blood flow to the brain, heart and lungs. Skin is cool, moist and clammy and the pupils are dilated. Victim is usually sweating profusely.
What is heat stroke?
Breakdown of the sweating mechanism of the body. Hot and dry skin, uneven pupil dilation and a weak rapid pulse.
What are the three types of cold weather injuries?
Hypothermia, superficial and deep frostbite
What is hypothermia?
A general cooling of the whole body caused by exposure to low or rapidly falling temperature, cold moisture, snow or ice.
What is shock?
It’s a life-the eating medical condition whereby the body suffers from insufficient blood flow throughout the body as a result of severe injury or illness.
What is Septic shock?

When the heart is damaged and unable to supply sufficient blood to the body.
What is Hypovolemic shock?
Caused by a severe blood and fluid loss, from a traumatic bodily injury. Heart is unable to pump enough blood to the body.
What is Neurogenic shock?
Caused by spinal cord injury
What is CPR?
Is a combination of rescue breathing and chest compressions delivered to victims thought to be in cardiac arrest.
CPR steps are:
C/A/B : circulation/airway/ breathing
What is ORM?
Is a systematic decision-making process used to identify and manage hazards that endanger naval resources.
ORM process
1) Identify hazards
2) Assess hazards
3) Make risk decisions
4) Implement controls
5) Supervise
Class A mishap?
Reportable material property damage is $ 2,000,000 or more, death or permanent total disability

What is Chemical warfare?
Is the employment of chemical agents that are intended for use in military operations to kill, seriously injure or incapacitate personnel due to their physiological effect.
Nerve agent?
Liquid casualty agent that disrupt nerve impulses to the body
Blister Agent is?
Liquid or solid casualty agents that can cause inflammation, blisters and general destruction of tissue which often results in temp. blindness and/or death.
Blood agents ?
Gaseous casualty agents that attack the enzymes carrying oxygen in the blood streams.
