Pharynx Flashcards
Three parts of pharynx
Oropharynx, laryngopharynx, nasopharynx
Posterior aperture of nasal cavity
Choanae
Between nasopharynx and oropharynx
Pharyngeal isthmus
Soft palat is in the …
Oropharynx
End of oral cavity
Oropharyngeal isthmus or isthmus of the fauces
Pharyngotympanic tube connects
Eustachian tube or auditory tube, nasopharynx to the middle ear
Pharynx bony attaches to skull
Pterygoid process of sphenoid bone, Petrous temporal bone, occipital bone + pharyngeal tubercle
Attached to the styloid process
Stylohyoid m, styloglossus m, stylopharyngeal m stylohyoid lig, stylomandibular lig
Constrictor muscles attachments
Superior constrictor = pharyngeal raphe, Pterygoidmadibular raphe, Pterygoidmadibular humulus, mandible
Middle constrictor = PR, grater and lesser horn of hyoid, stylohyoid lig
Inferior constrictor = PR, cricoid cartilage, thyroid cartilage, cricothyroid muscle
Innervation of constrictor muscles
Vagus n
Name longitudinal muscles w attachments
Stylopharyngeus (styloid process to pharyngeal wall), salpingopharyngeus (pharyngotympanic tube to PW) palatopharyngeus (palatine aponeurosis to PW)
Innervation of longitudinal muscles
Vagus n, ex for stylopharyngeus
Two parts of pharyngeal fascia
Buccopharyngeal fascia (outside muscles, of pretracheal layer) pharyngobasilar fascia (lines inside surface)
