Pharynx Flashcards
What are the 3 sub divisions of pharyx?
Naso, Oro and laryngo
what are the borders of nasopharynx and what does it contain
What is the lining?
base of skull to soft palate
contains andenoid tonsils, which enlarge between 3-8 years of age.
Lined by ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelial
what are the borders of oropharynx?
what does it contain?
soft palate to superior border of epiglottis
Contains: posterior 1/3 tongue, lingual tonsils, palatine tonsils and superior constrictor muscles.
What are the borders of laryngopharnyx? what does it contain?
superior border of epiglottis to inferior border of circoid cartilage
- contains pharyngeal constrictors
what is a pharngeal diverticulum? where does it form?
uncordinated relaxation of circophrayngeous after thyrophrayngeus contract - increased the intrapharyngeal pressure and cause phrayngeal mucosal to form a diverticulum (pouch)
What are the 3 circular pharyngeal constrictor muscles? where are the located
- superior pharnyngeal constrictor (Oro)
- middle pharyngeal constrictor (laryngo)
- inferior pharyngeal constrictor (layrngo
how does the circular muscles contract?
sequentially from superior to inferior to constrict the lumen and propel the bolus of food inferiorly into the oesophagus.
What nerve innervated pharyngeal constrictors?
vagus nerve
What are the 3 longitudinal muscles? and theyre innervation
- Stylopharyngeus (glossophrayngeal nerve)
- platopharyngeous (vagus)
- salpingopharyngeus (vagus)
Where does the pharynx receive sensory innervation from?
glossopharyngeal nerve
motor innervation of pharynx
all vagus expect for stylo (glosso)
Where is blood supply from?
external carotid
