Pharynx Flashcards
Hypoglossal nv palsy tongue deviation to
Weak side due to unopposed action of genioglossus
All muscles of tongue are supplied by hypoglossal except palatoglossus ( supplied by vagus)
Palatoglossus has a retraction action on posterior part of tongue whereas genioglossus protrude the tongue and pushes tongue to opposite side
Therefore in hypoglossal nv palsy the genioglossus of opposite side( n side) will push the to tongue to the affected side
Ca of base of tongue pain referred to ear through which nv
