Define emergency drugs
Drugs required to meet immediate needs to save or sustain life in an emergency (drugs in a crash cart)
What is an outpatient institutional facility?
A pharmacy located within or on the campus of an institutional facility physically separated from inpatient services. Must have its own terminal distributor’s license
What is an institutional facility?
A place where medical care is provided on site and a medical record documenting episodes of care, including meds ordered and administered, is maintained.
What tasks require positive identification in an inpatient setting?

What are override medications and when are they used?
A dangerous drug that may be removed from floor stock or contingency drugs prior to pharmacist review because the institution’s committee has determined that the clinical status of the pt would be compromised by delay (ex. codes, traumas, etc.)
What is a preprinted order?
A pt specific, definitive set of drug treatment directives to be administered to a pt who has been examined by a prescriber
T/F: A pharmacist practicing in an institutional facility may temporarily leave the pharmacy without closing the pharmacy.
True - as long as the pharmacist is engaging in pharmacy practice within the facility and there are adequate security measures in place to maintain security of the drugs, the pharmacy may remain open and function as normal
All inpatient orders must have:

What is the expiration date for repackaged or relabeled drugs?

1) An expiration date based on literature, manufacturer’s labeling, etc.
2) 1 year
3) Expiration date on original container
What 6 areas must a sterile products quality assurance program address?
1) Adequate training and competency monitoring of personnel
2) Verification of compounding accuracy including physical inspection of end products
3) Verification of automated compounding devices
4) Verification of appropriate beyond use dates on products
5) End product testing (sampling if microbio contamination suspected)
6) Extensive end product testing if non-sterile ingredients are being used (pyrogen and particulate testing)
How often must clean rooms and laminar flow hoods have environmental monitoring performed to assess efficacy?
At least every 6 months
What are contingency drugs?
A supply of non-pt specific drugs which may be required to meet the therapeutic needs of pt or staff when an on-site pharmacy is not available
How many hours of instruction are needed in a nuclear pharmacy?
200 hours
