- fulfil their duty to the patient first and foremost
- Manages potential conflicts in the interest of the patient
- Promotes good health and wellbeing, and acts to prevent harm to the patient
- prevents the supply of unnecessary and/or excessive amounts of medicines or any products which may cause harm
- provides evidence based recommendations
- promotes continuity of care (providing info to relevant health professionals and making appropriate referrals)
- facilitates and tailors service to patients individual needs, abilities and culture.

* respects the dignity and autonomy of the patient
* encourages patient to participate in shared decision making
* explains options available, including risks and benefits, to assist the patient to make an informed decision
