Pharmacology Final Flashcards
What do Beta Adrenergic’s do inside of the body?
🔎THEY DO NOT GET RID OF FLUID
🫀🩸
Lowers BP by decreasing heart rate & dilating blood vessels
What is the priority before administering a Beta-adrenergic Blocker?
🔎IF PULSE IS LESS than 50/min= HOLD MED
Priority is taking BP
Why should not stop taking a Beta-Adrenergic blocker suddenly?
🫀
Because it results in rebound myocardium excitation
What do Diuretics do inside of your body?
Lower blood pressure 🩸 by getting rid of fluid 💧 through voiding (diuresis)
What exactly is Glucagon ?
It is a blood glucose finger stick of less than 70 mg/dL is true hypoglycemia
How do you administer Glucagon if the patient is NPO?
Give glucagon SQ,STAT, if patient is NPO
Why should you avoid sudden discontinuation of Metoprolol? (Beta Blocker)?
Because that causes rebound myocardial excitation (increased angina causes MI)
- if dizzy, continue med- change position slowly
Why should you discontinue Metformin (for type 2 diabetes) 24-48 hrs before procedure with radiopaque dye (iodine) ?
To PREVENT renal insufficiency
