PHARMACOLOGY Flashcards

1
Q

What is Pharmacology?

A
  • Study of Drugs
  • Study of Biological effects of CHEMICALS
  • when chemicals introduced to the body, there will be some sort of change:
  • Desirable = Therapeutic Effect
  • Undesirable = SE (Expected) & AE (Unexpected)

Q

What happens when the drugs enters the body?

A

When the drugs entered the body, there is the cell together with the receptor that receives the drugs/chemical, when the drug binds to the cell, there will be a change or effect, and this is called “PHARMACODYNAMICS”

Q

ANTAGONISTS

A

COMPETITIVE ANTAGONIST
- Drugs that blocks the SAME receptor site
Example: (A) Morphine and (AntaG) Naloxone
- Antidote

NON-COMPETITIVE ANTAGONIST
- drugs bind to DIFFERENT receptor sites
- action of agonist is REDUCED
Example: Cefuroxime = omeprazole
