Pharmacology Flashcards
Ganirelix
GnRH antagonist.
Controls ovulation by inhibiting premature LH surge.
Used in controlled ovarian stimulation for assistant reproduction.
rFSH
recombinant FSH.
Used in hypogonadism
Follitropin
Folic Acid
Converted to tetrahydrofolate and methyltetrahydrofolate by dhf reductase.
Needed for purine & thymidylate synthesis.
Need B12 as co factor.
Thalidomide
immunomodulator.
Inhibit IKZF3 and IKZF1, needed for cell survival/proliferation.
Multiple myeloma
Erythema nodosum leprosum
Magnesium Sulfate
Treats CONVULSIONS in pregnancy (eclampsia).
MOA: blocks striated muscle contractions and prevents peripheral neuromuscular transmission by REDUCING ACETYLCHOLINE at myoneural junction.
Labetalol
Alpha & Beta receptor blocker, used to treat HTN in pregnancy.
Levodopa
Dopamine precursor.
Treats Parkinsons, in combination with carbidopa.
Cross BBB
Sodium Valproate/ Acid
Acts on GABA.
Blocks voltage-gated channels.
inhibiting histone deacetylase.
Treats epilepsy and bipolar disorder, sometimes migraine.
Oxytocin
Used to induce/strengthen uterine contractions. & postpartum bleeding.
moa: produced by HYPOTHALAMUS, stored and secreted in POSTEIOR PITUITARY. binds oxytocin receptor triggering intracellular calcium influx.
Flucloxacillin
Gram positive pencillin.
Inhibiting cell wall synthesis.
treats skin, wound, ear infection.
Tetracycline
Broad spectrum antibiotic
Gentamycin
Aminoglycosides.
Broad spectum but good for gram negative (pseudomonas aeruginosa).
Ampicillin
Broad spectrum penicillin.
inhibits cell wall synthesis.
Paracetamol
Acetaminophen
Analgesic and Anti-pyretic.
Activating descending serotonergic pathways, inhibits PROSTAGLANDINS.
Testosterone
Anatgonize the androgen receptor to develop masculine sex organs.
