Pharmacokinetics Flashcards
What are the factors that influence PK
Partition Coefficient
Drug solubility
Therapeutic window
Adverse drug reactions
What is partition coefficient
Indicates how hydrophilic or hydrophobic a drug is
(drug must be able to do both)
What is drug solubility?
Determines absorption and distribution parameters
How is partition coefficient determined?
by a ratio of its fat solubility and its water solubility
What is the solubility of a drug in plasma?
Hydrophilic as plasma is water and salts
What does a drug need to be in order to cross a membrane?
Slightly lipophilic
What is a therapeutic window?
Concentration range at which a drug is effective without causing undesirable physiological effects
What are adverse drug reactions?
Undesirable side affects either dose related or individual variation
