Pharmacodynamics Flashcards
Imatinib
Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor Effective for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia
Vinca Alkaloids
Bind to TUBULIN monomers and prevent polymerization of this molecule into microtubules. As a consequence, cells are arrested in metaphase. Structural proteins, such as tubulin, are important targets for antineoplastic drugs.
Fluoxetine or Sertraline
Selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), block the serotonin transporter, thus blocking serotonin reuptake from the synaptic cleft.
Mesma (Sulfhydryl compound)
Reacts in the bladder with ACROLEINE, a reactive metabolite of the anticancer drug cyclephosphamide and thus prevents hemorrhagic cystitis.
Mannitol
Administered to increase the osmolality of various body fluids. This effect is used to promote diuresis, catharsis, expansion of circulating volume in the vascular compartment or reduction of cerebral edema.
Cholestyramine, Colestipol and Colesevelam
Bind bile acids in the intestinal lumen and prevent their reabsorption. They are used to treat hyperlipidemia.
Dimercaprol
Chelate heavy metals to decrease their toxicity.
Phenoxybenzamine
Irreversible Competitive Antagonist of the Alpha-adrenoreceptor, used in the treatment of pheochromocytoma.
Ketamine
Noncompetitive Antagonist (Allosteric Antagonist) at the NMDA receptor. It is a dissociative anesthetic.
