Phagocytosis Flashcards
Two types of WBC
Phagocytes
Lymphocytes
Phagocytosis
Large particles get engulfed by cells in the vesicles formed from the cell-surface membrane
+WBC that carry out phagocytosis= Phagocytes
Process of phagocytosis
+ Chemical products of pathogens or dead, damaged and abnormal cell act as attractants causing P to move towards the pathogen
+P have several receptors on their cell-surface that recognise and attach to chemicals on the surface on the surface of the pathogen.
+They engulf the pathogen to form a vesicle= Phagosome
+Lysosome move towards the vesicle and fuse with it.
+The lysozymes destroy the ingested bacteria by hydrolysis.
+The products from the breakdown are absorbed into the cytoplasm.
