What effect does GLP-1 have on the body?

A

Reduces appetite and gastric emptying.
Increases myocardial contractility.
Inhibits glucagon release. Promotes insulin release.

How is GLP-1 released?

A

Released from enterocytes in iluem and colon, 15 minutes after a meal. It is from neural stimulation from a closed enteric loop.

What do “gliptins” do?

A

DPP4 Inhibitor that prevents breakdown of GLP-1 and GIP. Allows GLP-1 and GIP to circulate longer.
