List the WHO six building blocks of a healthcare system

A
  • Leadership/governance- strategic policy frameworks exist and are combined with effective oversight, coalition building, provision of appropriate regulations and incentives, attention to system design and accountability.
  • Healthcare financing- raises adequate funds for health, so people can use needed services and are protected from financial catastrophe or having to pay for them.
  • Health workforce- responsive, fair and efficient to achieve best health outcomes, given resources and staff. Sufficient numbers and mix of staff, fairly distributed, competent, responsive
  • Med products/tech- ensures equitable access to all, assured quality, efficacy, cost effectiveness and scientifically sound
  • Info and research- ensures production, analysis and dissemination and use of reliable and timely info on health determinants, systems performance and health status
  • Service delivery- effective, safe and quality interventions with minimum resource waste

Goals/outcomes: improved health, responsiveness, financial risk protection, improved efficiency
