-nominations to supreme court
-Amy Coney Barett was nominated by Trump in 2020
-in theory broke the ‘Biden Rule’ (that SC nominations made at the end of a president’s term should be someone not staunchly right/left wing
-nomination was supported by American’s for prosperity
-nomination was opposed by NAACP and NARAL (pro-abortion)
-led to partisan differences in senate: 52 republicans for and 47 democrats against

what’s the revolving door syndrome?

A

-the idea that many people who leave congress go into jobs in pressure groups e.g. being a lobbyist
-60% of congress leave to become lobbyists
-therefore institutional knowledge and contacts gives them an advantage
-doesn’t happen as much in the UK as some laws prevent MPs from doing it
