PGI Exam Flashcards
What are the five aircraft attitudes?
Cruise, nose up, nose down, bank left, bank right.
What are the three aircraft movements?
Roll, pitch, yaw.
What are factors producing yaw?
Gyroscopic precession, asymmetric thrust, slipstream effect, torque, aileron drag.
What is the rule of thumb for airspeed to RPM?
+/- 100RPM = +/- 5kts
What is a precautionary landing?
A landing done on a surface where there is doubt concerning the surface.
What is a C.O.W.L.S check?
Civilization Obstacles Wind Length Surface
What are the three stages of a precautionary landing?
- The high level pass
- The low level pass
- The final circuit to landing
What is the low-flying regulation for precautionary landings?
1,000ft above highest obstacle and 2,000ft horizontally.
When are illusions created my drift most prevalent?
- Circuits
- Precautionary landings
- Forced approaches
- Diversions
What are the two types of precautionary landings?
A pre-planned landing, and a landing due to an aircraft problem or pilot problem.
What are the three components of a VOR?
- Antenna
- Receiver
- Indicator
How do you test a VOR using a VOT?
rotate OBS 10 degrees either way, should see full deflection.
How would a rearward C of G affect the aircraft?
- Trim nose down
- Lifts tail up, therefore less drag
- Less drag by trim tab
- Increases range
How can we conduct an overshoot?
- Full power
- Climb out at Vy
- Advise tower
- 500ft checks
What is the purpose of the high pass on a precautionary landing?
We use this to ask “does this surface deserve a closer look.”
