What is Korotkoff Sounds?
Low pitched sounds produced by turbulent blood flow in arteries
What is Barre-Lieou
Patient seated, patient rotates head from side to side, accelerating as the test continues
DeKleyn’s is
Patient supine patient rotates and extends head off table and turns to each side 15-45 seconds
Hall pike
Enhanced DeKleyn’s, patient supine head off table examiner supports skull. Head into extension rotation and lateral flexion
What is Hautant’s
Patient seated, arms are extended forward to shoulder level with hands supinated. Patient then closes eyes rotates and hyper extends the neck on one side, then repeat
What is Underbergs
Patient stands with eyes open, arms at side, feet close together. Patient closes eyes, extends arms and supinate hands then extends and rotates head to one side, then patient marches in place
What is Maignes
Patient is seated, examiner brings head into extension and rotation
Scaly eyebrows indicates
Seborrhea- red and itchy rash and white scales
Loss of the lateral 1/3 of eyebrow indicates
Myxedema-aka HYPO thyroid, includes weight gain, sensitive to cold, mental dullness
What is Adie’s Pupil
Sluggish pupillary reaction to light that is UNILATERAL and caused by a PARAsympathetic lesion of CNIII
Anisocoria
Unequal pupil size
Argyll Robertson is
Bilaterally small and irregular pupils that accommodate but DO NOT react to light. Seen with Syphilis
Arroyo sign is
Sluggish pupillary reaction due to hypo-adrenalism. (Addison’s Disease)
Blepharitis is
Inflammation of the eyelid seen with seborrhea, staph infection, inflammatory processes
Cataracts are
Opacities seen in the lens that are commonly seen with diabetes and in the elderly. ABSENT red light reflex
