What was Peterloo really?
A large working class meeting held to protest against the political system.
How many people arrived at Peterloo
Around 50,000
Who was due to make a speech?
Radical speaker, Henry Hunt.
What happened when Hunt tried to speak?
Because Manchester had no police force, the army was called down to stop him and they attacked anyone who got in there way.
How many were injured and how many were killed?
11 kiled. 400 injured.
What did the government do?
They congratulated the army and those who helped to keep order in Manchester,
They banned meetings of over 50 people.
What happened to Henry Hunt?
He was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
What happened to the working class people?
Newspapers became more expensive so they couldn’t afford them and they would be less likely to publish anything anti-goverment.
