Peter Chang Plastic Bracelet + Lalique Speedwell Bracelet Flashcards
1
Q
Fitness For Purpose - Speedwell
A
- The ‘Speedwell’ bracelet by Lalique is not practical
because it’s big + would reach up to elbows, making it
difficult to bend your arm. - It looks quite sharp + scratchy due to the metal and glass
it is made of. - The glass may shatter so you might end up cutting
yourself. - It looks heavy making it uncomfortable to wear as it
would weigh down your arm

Q
Fitness for purpose - Plastic bracelet
A
- The ‘Plastic’ bracelet by Peter Chang is not practical to
wear because it’s wide, chunky + bulky looking. This
means that it would get in the way to do every day tasks
e.g cooking + cleaning - It looks sharp due to all the little bits of plastic + metal
sticking out of it. This means that it could easily catch on
things + you might poke your eye so potentially
dangerous. - However it looks comfortable enough this is because its
smooth, lightweight + seems easy to slip your arm into.

Q
Target Market - Speedwell
A
- I would say the target market for the ‘speedwell’ bracelet
would be for older people - around the age of 30+
because it looks quite old fashioned due to it being
made out of metal and all the intricate details in it. - I think wealthy collectors would buy this type of jewellery
because they are usually attracted to unique one-off
pieces like this bracelet, which has been made
specifically for a person and you’ll never find the same
piece anywhere else.

Q
Target Market - Plastic bracelet
A
- I think a collector or museums/celebrities would buy the
plastic bracelet because it’s interesting, unique +
eye catching. This is due to the the bold bright colours
used and the unusual, possibly space/alien/underwater
themed bits sticking out of it. - It is expensive + another one-off piece + took lots of
effort + a long time to make - 100’s of hours. This is what
makes it special + therefore I think these people would
want to add it to their collection to show off.

Q
Style - Speedwell
A
- The Lalique ‘speedwell’ bracelet’s style is Art Nouveau
because it’s decorative + has a flower pattern. - It is gold + silver - these metallic colours give the bracelet
a fresh, delicate, elegant feel as they are quite simple
but classy. - It is made from gold + glass and is a 3D flower shape.
The materials used give it a sense of expense + luxury as
these materials weren’t cheep back in the day when it
was made.

Q
Style - Plastic bracelet
A
- The Peter Chang Plastic bracelet’s style is contemporary,
bold + dramatic due to the shape being unsymmetrical
with objects sticking out. - The plastic materials used are cheap therefore it didn’t
cost the artist much to make.

Q
Opinion
A
- I personally like both the designs, the Peter Chang one
because it’s very colourful + I like it’s quirky + zany style. - However I think I prefer the Lalique one because I like
the elegance + simplicity of it + it would match with more
outfits.
