Culture Chang(Influence)
Chang was part Chinese and thus was a big influence on his work, his oriental ancestry is evident with his love of high decoration and ornate pattern. He was known as the ‘Faberge’ of the 21st century
Nature Chang(Influence)
Chang was influenced by shapes in nature. A lot of his work looks like it is symmetrical however in closer inspection small intricate forms are often angled in odd ways adding to the idea that an ‘otherworldly’ object or sea creature
Parental Culture Chang(Influence)
Chang’s parents were of both Eastern and Western Cultures. His Asian heritage played a strong part in his designs as he used vibrant colour and vivid patterns. This influence is evident in many of his designs, when he uses bright and eye catching colours to draw our attention
Environmental Chang(Influence)
Chang’s use of plastic reflects the usage we live in that uses an abundance of this throw-away material. He was keen to reinvent these objects and help with his carbon footprint by melting down old toothbrushes, Chinatown signs, toys and, using the sole of trainers. This influence is evident in most of his creations where he uses polyester and PVC to create his designs which are materials that are usually normal everyday throw-away materials
