materials are strong and reliable

Lalique’s materials increase the price of his work dramatically whereas Chang’s materials increase the price a slightly.
Why are Chang’s materials appropriate for his styles ?
they give the piece a solid structural form, a vibrant effect and 3D detail a all of which is very important to have in a contemporary design in addition

he had to heat the plastic in the oven

What other techniques does he use ?
constructs some areas using lacquer and mosaic techniques. Chang builds up areas with resin or little pieces of acrylic and glitter. To attach all of this together he uses all different types of solvent sand adhesives then he would polish it to make it nice and shiny.
How effective were his materials ?
very effective because of the amount of intricate 3D detail and the 2D detail
What makes the mosaic techniques eye-catching ?
it is oversized.
What effect do the acrylic sheets have ?
very vibrant colours draw attention and create a solid structure.
When did Chang’s work come about ?
when jewellers were allowed to attend art school in the 1960s furthermore recycling was becoming a big thing and pop culture.
What influence did art school have on Chang ?
its a very structural piece of jewellery and unique to anything that had ever been made before.

What was he culturally influenced by ?
music scenes in the sixties and unusual materials, colours and form from pop art.
What did Chang focus on in his 1995 piece ?
vibrant colours and 3D detail. It had in addition sculptural features. No one wants to spend a lot of money on an item which is made of cheap materials which will break or even too heavy materials because it would be uncomfortable for them to wear.
What did Chang have to do to his cheap materials in both pieces ?
he had to adapt the materials using different techniques to make the bracelets look more expensive. The cost of these designs were expensive because of the materials used , quality, time spent and if it is was handcrafted.
