Pesticide Hazards and First Aid Flashcards
Toxicity
Ability of a pesticide to cause short-term or long-term injury.
Exposure
Occurs when pesticides get onto or into the body through the skin, lungs, mouth, and eye.
Hazard
Risk
Its potential or probability for harm to occur because of the product’s innate toxicity and level of human exposure.
Local or contact symptoms
Effects those areas of contact with the skin, eyes, or respiratory tract.
Systemic effects or pesticides
Occur once a pesticide has been absorbed and distributed throughout the body.
Four primary routes of exposure are?
- Skin
- eyes
- lungs
- mouth
Acute toxicity
Measure of harm caused by a single, one-time exposure event.
LD 50
Dose of a toxicant required to kill 50% of the population of test animals under as standard set of conditions.
LC 50
Lethal concentration of a substance in air or water required to kill 50% of the test population.
Four signal words used are?
Danger-Poison, Danger, Warning, and Caution.
Chronic Toxicity is
Long-term exposure to an active ingredient.
