Syllogism/Inductive Reasoning
Arguments that apply what is known about objects to unknown objects
Rogerian Method
Arguing without assuming an adversarial relationship
Non-Sequitur
Placing one statement after the other when there is no logical argument between the two
Ex: Lance is good at math because he is talk
Ad Hominem
Attacking the person not the issue
Red Herring
When the focus of the argument is changed to divert the audience from the actual issue
Ex: mayor wants a stadium but baseball players have drug problems
Straw Man Argument
Attributes false or exaggerated characteristics or behaviors to the opponent and attacks him on those exaggerations
Post Hoc
Fallacy of believing that since one event came before another, the first event caused the second one
Ex: She tripped Joey. She must have been the one that stole his wallet.
