Parsons suggested that schools judge pupils and give them an achieved status. It acts as a bridge between family’s ascribed status

Define Myth of meritocracy
It is a criticism made by Bowles and Gintis that states that education does not judge you in universalistic standards as there are still many people who inherit their wealth.

Education should be marketised. Where schools compete with each other just like businesses to gain educational vouchers. (Chubb and Moe)
Define parentocracy
It is a result of marketisation of education where parents are given the power to choose what school their child goes to.
