Eysenck
A persons personality is fixed and innate.
using personality tests he measured a persons traits, including NEUROTICISM, STABILITY, INTROVERSION, EXTROVERSION.
Eysenck’s findings
From the possible combinations there was one that stood out to be linked with criminality
EN- High extrovert High neuroticism
Why do EN commit crimes
High extroversion is linked to risk taking behavior,
High neuroticism leads to unpredictable behavior, quick temper and feeling guilty
Strengths of Eysenck
Looks to measure personality types so creates profiles that criminals might have.
Rushhton and Christjhon measured those with high levels of delinquency and found them to have high scores of extroversion and neuroticism
Limitation of Eysenck
This theory fails to see cause and effect factors and ignores other influences (social factors) and is based of correlation.
Personality can be effected by someones up bringing so are not always innate.
