- impaired cognitive abilities - tendency to misinterpret or not recognize details, distorted thinking patterns (cognitive schemas) eg. car crash once think its going to happen again every time
- emotional instability - heighten neg emotions or lack sensitivity
- impaired self-identity - uncertain, disturbed identity shaped by others (impaired interpersonal function)
- impulsivity and destructive behaviour - tendency for impulsive acts affecting self/others

interventions for sleep, nutrition, and preventing self-harm
sleep - regular sleep-wake cycles, moderate exercise
nutrition - learn basics, make reasonable choices, develop coping strats
prevention of self harm - observe for antecedents of self-harm and intervene before episode, develop strats of prevention, distraction
staff splitting
tell you one thing about another staff member to value or devalue their work and turn staff on each other, makes environment rigid
