Q

What is SWB in prediction of individual outcomes?

A
  • SWB = subjective well-being
  • includes cognitive component/judgement of one’s life satisfaction (Diener et al. 1985)
  • emotional component (experiences of positive and absence of negative emotions- Larsen 2000)
17
Q

What demographic factors are weakly/moderately linked to SWB?

A

-age
-gender
-marital status
-employment
-social class
-culture
(Ryan & Deci 2001)

Differences in conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness are less strongly and consistently associated with SWB

18
Q

What has neuroticism been shown to be associated with?

A

Increased physical and mental health risk

19
Q

What does neuroticism and low agreeableness often result in?

A

They are indicators of and may lead to negative relationship outcomes
(Relationship dissatisfaction)- Karney & Bradbury 1995

20
Q

State a study which relates certain traits to certain occupational interests?

A

Barrick et al. 2003, Larson et al. 2002

  • examined using meta analysis relations between personality and occupational types
  • extraversion related to social and enterprising occupations
  • agreeableness to social interests
  • openness to investigative/artistic interests
  • neuroticism not related to any interest
