Allport’s Trait Theory
A
Three levels of traits:
- Cardinal traits: rare, and dominant, usually developing later in life. Really define a person (ex. Machiavellian)
- Central traits: These general characteristics form basic personality foundations, describe major characteristics.
- Secondary traits: related to attitudes or preferences, they appear only in certain situations or under specific circumstances.
